Origin of the name ERNA.
Etymology of the name ERNA.
Meaning of the baby name ERNA.

ERNA.  A short form of English Ernestine (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884), German Ernstine (Die deutsche mundart in Estland, Sallmann, 1873), and Hungarian Ernesztina (Az Anyakönyvvezetök Kézik, Budapest, Vilmos, 1898), all meaning "eagle stone."

But the peasants say, when the thunders roar,
And the lightnings flash o'er the lake's cold face,
Two forms are seen by the haunted shore,
And the stately mien and fairy grace
Tell that these visions of Corrib's tide
Are Lord Hugo and Erna, his Saxon bride.
(Killeeny of Lough Corrib & Misc. Poems, Condon, 1872)

ERNA.  Old Norse myth name of the wife of Jarl, derived from Teutonic arn, meaning "eagle."

... Having attained manhood, Jarl married Erna, an aristocratic, slender-waisted maiden, who ruled his household wisely and bore him many children, all born to rule, the youngest of which, Konur, became the first king of Denmark according to this myth, which is illustrative of the marked sense of classes among the Northern races. (Myths of Northern Lands, Guerber, 1895)
