EADGYTH.  Scottish Saxon name, equated by some authors with Anglo-Saxon Eadgifu (q.v.), meaning "rich gift," from Old English ead "fortune, riches, prosperity" and gifu "gift."  Some derive the latter element from gy "battle, war."
